Hell wello! How's it going? Good.
Whilst we're taking a wee breaky in the studio I thought I'd write some words here for you, first of all some words of wisdom from Keith Jarret - click and watch, understand nothing. Genius.
Today is national pancake day and to celebrate we're going to make pancakes. I say we, I should say Sara, my housemate. There's talk of savoury varieties such as spinach and ricotta, as well as classics involving sugared ham and mouldy breadcrumbs. What do you like on your pancakes? (email us your answers, we really don't care)
This is brilliant: Look Around You. A spoof written and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz, known for various rolls including soft white and granary, erm sorry I mean roles including guesting in Spaced and featuring in Shaun Of The Dead. Absolute joker, unlike me.
Last summer I went to some Proms at the Royal Albert, not very rock'n'roll but actually pretty inspiring, this is a video of one pianist we saw being amazing - Martha Argerych - she is one of the best pianists in the world and absolutely mind-blowing in my humbolt opinion (type of squid).
I will add some photos of pancakes shortly to prove nothing but in the meantime I've got to go to the shop and buy flour, have a lovely day x
Howdy, hola and hello.
Apologies for not having talked to your face for a while, plenty of exciting Christmas, New Year and Easter happenings happened and before you know it it's Thursday - how time flies eh? But here we are, back from a brief sojourn in Holland and feeling frisky like a dog after biscuits, let me tell you.
1) Thanks to everyone who came to our show at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen at the start of Jan, that was our last UK show for a while as we are gonna be hitting the studio soon for some reason or other - but fear ye not! - we will back soon with a new "TURBO" button attached to our dashboard. Turbo will be written in red to give it greater import.
D) Holland was fantastic, after this text there will follow a brief photo journal of our encounters and such, please do not be alarmed but rather try and let the images sooth your eyes like one of those gel filled eye masks you get from Boots the chemist...
9) After a 4am start, a 7-hour ferry crossing and some pretty poor-quality coffee this is the scene we encountered as we started the drive from Hook of Holland to Amsterdam:
Q) Despite our hired satnav's protestations at every turn we eventually arrived safely at Paradiso and were helped into the venue by a very friendly bunch. Top marks. If you haven't been before I should probably state that Paradiso is an awesome, massive venue, well worth heading there if you're planning a trip to the 'Dam. We hung around, ate some sandwiches, drank some freshly squeezed orange juice and larked about a bit. But not too much. We then played a show, larked about with slightly more vigour and then ended up in the flimsiest hotel in the world waking up everyone and generally pissing off the guy on the desk. Sorry chap.
0) The world was a strange place the next morning, we ate an over-priced breakfast and laughed at things that definitely weren't funny. We refer to this state as "tour insanity" and it is usually reached after the combination of sleep deprivation, alcohol and van-induced cabin fever get too much for us.
1) After breakfast it was time to get moving so we upped and offed to Groningen, where we were booked to play at Eurosonic festival. This is us walking:
P) Amsterdam is well known for cycling but when it came to it we couldn't find our bikes, Oxbridge aint got nothing on this:
h) We got to Groningen, ate at the famous Dutch restaurant "Wagamamas" and found that the hotel we were staying in was about 50 miles out of town. This led to more satnav shenanigans and general driving frustration, but as I don't drive I wasn't really party to any of this. Well done Sybil is all I can say. Everything was good though and after a relaxed evening off and a good lie in we played a punk set to rival the Sex Pistols.
g) After the show, some drinking, the whole of the Stop Making Sense DVD by Talking Heads (one of the best things ever made) and a vague amount of sleep it was time to set off for another 7-hour ferry crossing. On the ferry life looked bleak and apocalyptic:
zP) Finally arriving home at 11pm, we unloaded the van and all went home to a nice cup of tea. Only problem with Europe - why can't you get tea right? Oh well.
Henry got so annoyed by the tea he had to go and sit on his own for a bit:
Thanks to all who helped out at the venues and came to the shows, also thanks to Paul Corkett for doing the sound and Timmy for his time spent with the Secret Service. If you want good music go to www.myspace.com/mysteronsmusic
Toodles,
X
